Welcome to Peace Ranch

Message from the President
Mrs. Mary Podrebarac
Welcome to Peace Ranch's new web site. As you journey through, I hope you get a sense of what a wonderful and welcoming home it is. You will see the interesting and varied programs that we offer together with photographs that depict daily life including those of our animals. You will find links to our partners, and information about mental health. You will see calendars of coming events and updates of ongoing events. You will even see opportunities to make a donation to Peace Ranch.
What you may not get a sense of are all the wonderful people who make up Peace Ranch, the people who have become my friends over the last three years: friendly residents, enthusiastic program participants, warm and able staff, and involved and giving volunteers. Volunteers who happily give of their time, whether working with residents and program participants, or being Board members.
Peace Ranch is, to us, always a "work in progress": programs and activities are developed and implemented, new research on mental health is studied and, where appropriate, new therapies are adopted. New opportunities for growth and expansion are being vigourously pursued as there is a large need for an expanded Peace Ranch. The waiting list for residency is getting longer and more people wish to take part in what we offer.
Being involved with Peace Ranch is absorbing and fulfilling and has become a highlight of my life. I hope that you can join us in our quest.
Warm regards, Mary
The mission of Peace Ranch is to provide supportive housing and rehabilitative programs for adults who have serious mental illnesses, enabling them to live and work in a community atmosphere. It fulfills this mission through Psychosocial Rehabilitation principles which enable individuals to move toward recovery.
Four residents in the past year progressed from the farm to less supportive housing and Peace Ranch accepted four new residents. Hospital bed use for psychiatric reasons for these four residents in the two years prior to coming to Peace Ranch averaged 230 days. Therefore, hospital bed day use was reduced by 920 days. That resulted in a savings of $447,606 in the healthcare system and ultimately the taxpayer. These savings equal approximately one half of Peace Ranch’s annual budget for 17 people.
